Below is the days in which we will be filming. We have created this schedule to help us with keeping up to date with all of coursework within our project.

Film Openings
Final Destination 5.
From the opening of this film I can infer that the content is tense, I know this because the music, its sharp, aggressive and loud. The beginning credits have enabled me to gain an understanding that not only is the film going to be a thriller but its going to contain violence and gory scenes too, I have been given this impression because of the objects being thrown towards the viewer, these objects are such things as knifes, bullets and other weapons that are able to cause harm.
The institutions that distribute the film, are Warner bros pictures and new line cinema.
Suddenly the fast upbeat music silences to a very abnormal scene that we do not relate to the previous music that was played. The actor seems very weary of his surroundings, making it obvious to the audience that there is something suspicious going on, witch is out of the normal, or that something is about to happen. The three relationships that we see in the beginning of the film were shown by using a two shot and an over the shoulder shots. Most of the shots are close ups of the characters, this helps to show who the main characters are and allows to viewer to
I am Number Four.
As we enter the amazing science fiction adventure world and discover the unusual and ab-normal creatures that lie within it, we come across heavy, quiet breathing allows us to know the level of tension that’s been created due to something lurking about behind closed doors, I found myself almost at the edge of my seat in terror and interest. All of a sudden a gust of spook and fear burst within me, the wall has been destroyed, the monster viciously bursts though the door, intruding the silence!
The film was greatly produced and presented by ‘DreamWorks’ and ‘Reliance Big Entertainment’
At the very beginning we sense an uneasy fear within ourselves, this is due to the strong and intimidating music that begins to get faster and faster as it continues, until coming to a halt were silence is then among us. Whilst the music is played we can see the earth from all different angles, this brings me to the thought of science-fiction, I think this is because the world was actually discovered by famous science astronomers. The movie is in fact a sci-fi film. I’m given the impression that I’m flying, in and out of countries, I feel free and relaxed, until the music begins to play.
The camera angles imply that the producers are wanting the viewer to see all the actions as the camera travels wherever the man goes, I know this because long shots are also used.
The Butter Fly Effect

The Butter Fly Effect
The institutions that produced this film are New
Line Cinema in association with Film Engine.
The opening of this film starts with a black
background with a quote in white font; the quote is left for a while in order
for us to be able to read it. We then carry on to see a tracking shot of
someone sneaking around in the dark either trying to hide from someone or find
something. The music played is very quite but extremely creepy and as the
figure stops behind the blurred out door, the music goes very quite so that you
can barely hear it, you can see him waiting for something. All of a sudden he
pushes open the door and the music gets really loud and it starts build up,
this helps to build tension. The camera follows the man by using the tracking
shot again and we can see that he is looking for something, but we are still no
more clued on what is happening. We then see an above the shoulder shot of the
mad and he looks very weary of what’s going on. The audience are at this point
would be intruded to know what’s happening as we have not yet seen anything
that has related to the begging quote that was shown, in some ways it is
completely in contrast. We then see the flashlight coming through the blinds
and here we can see this is the person that he is trying to hide from. We then
see his face to see that his is talking to himself making him look mad and then
the screen goes black. The darkens turns to become blue butterflies that turns
to a scull and this puzzles the audience.
From the conventions used we can see that it is
going to be a thriller, by the colors used and the music. We can also see from
the use of flashlights through the blinds as this shows the police or some sort
of authority.

Animatic
By doing an animatic for our film opening we are able to have a very clear layout of the thing that we need to include such as the type of shots and the positioning in our final piece. We have filmed all of our shots in the order that our final opening will be shot in.
In our real opening we will have more types of shots, we could not portray this in our animatic as they were just drawings. A few of the shots that we will be using is: close ups, mid shots and many others to help create a feeling of that fast, outgoing, urban scene. We have used final cut express to help edit it and therefore has helped us in the future when we come to edit the final opening.
The strengths of our animatic that that of the fact that it will help us in the future by helping us to learn how to edit on final cut express. It also has given us a story board to work from so that we know what to film and where to film it.
The weaknesses of it is the fact that we found it really hard to show the types of shots that we needed to included because we could not use tracking shots neither panning shots. We also have not chosen the final song that will help to introduce our film to the audience so therefore we could not include it in our animatic.
When we come to film i feel that our animatic will help us greatly by showing us what we need to film and the time length that we need to film for.

Camera Shots
An extreme close up is used to reveal the slightest of detail in a the screen shot. It helps the audience to see what the character is feeling and helps to portray every emotion that the character is displaying. An extreme close up would only show part of the characters face, and therefore the shot should be around something every small and very detailed.
In the image you can see that the part of the face that has been zoomed into is the characters eyes and eyes are the very way that we can normally tell how people are feeling. If seeing this screen shot you would be able to tell the the character is strong and confident; yet slightly angered. from this the audience would get all of these emotions just from this one camera shot.
close up
A close up is used to show the face of a character so that the audience feels that they know the character on a personal basis, it is the very way that a producer gets the audience to have that connection with a certain character or person. normally close ups are used to help the audience feel what the character is feeling, by showing the expression on their face in a closer more intimate way. A close up shot is normally a view of a characters face.
Form this image we can see what the character is feeling but in a much less defined way then if we was to see just his eyes as in the previous type of camera shot. This helps the audience concentrate in the individual and how they are feeling rather then other people around the character.
medium close up
medium close up is usually taken from about the waist upwards. a medium close up is normally used so that the audience can see the characters body language. by letting the audience see the characters upper body they feel very casual around the character as if they were in a normal conversation with a friend, they are not on an intimate level but more of a casual level.
from the image we can see what the character is feeling by letting up see the body language instead of showing just the characters face we have less of a connection with the actor but wee see more of the situation the character is in.
medium long shot
A medium long shot is to give the audience the expression on the characters face as well as an idea as to what is happening behind the character in the shot.
as you can see from the example image you can see clearly how the character is feeling and their emotions, but also we can see whats going on around the character. this helps the audience to gather their bearings and understand where they are.
long shot
a Long shot is more helpful when the individual is moving or walking. The character need to take up most of the height on the image but so that you can see the background behind them as well- as you can see form the image.
extra long shot
an extra long shot is useful when the character is walking through the scene. this means they can come closer and still you will be able to see the scene around them as well as what the character is doing. Extra Long shots don't always have to concentrate on a particular character(s) it can also be a just the scene and this is called an establishing shot for the audience to know where the scene is set.
form the image you can see that we get an idea of what is going on in the shot before zooming in to a certain group/individual. this relaxes the audience and helps the understanding of what is going on.
two shots are used when two people are having an important conversation and the conversation is important for the audience to know. from a two shot you would normally cut to an over the shoulder shot or a close up of one on the individuals reactions.
From the image we can see that the two characters have a connection and they are both in deep thought about the same thing. we can see as the audience that they are obviously acquittance's and this gives the audience a chance to understand the relationship between the two and come to a conclusion about how they feel for each other.
over the shoulder shot
over the shoulder shots are normally used when there is a conversation between two people. this would mean that the audience would see the character on screen from the 2nd person. normally we would see the person in a close up shot and then the image would switch to the next person ready for them to speak.

institutions
The following text will be research about the
many different film institutions throughout the UK and the USA. This will help
to gain knowledge about the different types of institutions that I could relate
to my opening of a film later on in the project.
One of
the major media Institutions is The Walt Disney Company. Disney Headquartered in Walt
Disney Studios, Burbank, California, United States is the medias biggest Conglomerate in
2010 its revenue was $38 Billion. Walt and Rory Disney founded it in on October
16th 1923. Disney being the medias biggest conglomerate also owns and operates
the ABC TV network; cable TV networks including ESPN, Disney channel and A+E
Networks, these are just a minor scale. It also owns 14 theme parks situated
around the world and has a very successful music business signing people/ bands
like Queen. Disney’s early years included the well-known creation of Mickey
Mouse this being the ‘official mascot’ of the company.
Films
that Disney’s is most famous for is obviously the Princess films (e.g. Little
Mermaid and Cinderella) but what we do not relate Disney with is the horror etc.
films that they have produced. Disney is
the owner of Miramax who have produced films such as Scream 2 and Bridget
jones.

The Preliminary task
Match on Action: If someone walks through the door it will quickly change to the person coming out of the other side of the door.
180* Rule: You have two people and they are only allowed in half of the area around them which is 180* so it doesn't confuse the audience.

The reason that I have chosen Media studies is because I feel that this will give me the opportunity to go into a new subject that develops my creative skills and further my knowledge in IT. I enjoy the time that I have experienced doing media in other lessons. Also I enjoy creating magazine's and coming up with new innovative ideas that others have not yet done. I have heard from friends that have taken Media that its a really interesting subject that will help me explore greater options when I go on to universities and even looking for a career in the future. I would like to go into a career within the media industry and therefore I grasped the opportunity with both hands to go into this subject. I hope to succeed in this subject and enjoy my time working on the new technology that the school has provided for us, to help go onto greater things.
